What Does It Mean to Be Popular ? Apr 24, 2015 | 2-part series
Video by The AtlanticThis is the second installment of The Atlantic's "Ask a Tween" series, where we ask tweens for their thoughts about pretty much everything. We interviewed students at Alice Deal Middle School in D.C., who told us what popularity means in 2015. Social media presence can have a big impact: "You're putting yourself on the web, so that allows people to see who you are, so in order to be popular people have to like you," says Rashida, a 12-year-old. However, "popularity at school is, like, different than overall or on Instagram," adds 13-year-old Dylan.Author: Nadine Ajaka

Life in Victorian Britain was tough if you were one of the working classes.
Six celebrities have been swapping their lives of comfort and stepping back in time for a new TV series, called 24 Hours in the Past.
They have been living and working in 19th century Britain, with no mod-cons to accompany them.
Presenter Miquita Oliver was one of those taking part in the show.
She told BBC Breakfast about coming to grips with her new role.

AN INFOGRAPHIC
http://www.justtheflight.co.uk/blog/20-city-nicknames-and-the-stories-behind-them.html
You can use the 21 pictures to make a card game , a board game and a quiz.
I intend to create a game to make the students use the passive : they will have to find sentences
in the passive voice and also rephrase other pieces of information, using the passive.
a cool map of the USA to help them find some of the American cities mentioned in the game.

How New Narratives can Help us to Overcome Obstacles to Climate Change Action
Prince Ea, St.Louis rapper, poet, anthropologist, and lyricist, really hits a chord with me in this video. He starts off by taking our problems to a very real extreme: that our rampant habitat destruction (killing off roughly half of all wild animals in the last 50 years) is threatening to wipe out most life on this planet in the geological blink of an eye.
Species are currently going extinct at 1000x the background rate, and we really have cut down half the world’s forests in less than a century. We really can’t continue to let things move in this direction.
This isn’t just altruism: our own survival is caught up in it, and we ourselves are part of an unbelievably complex natural network of life we call the biosphere. If we can understand these problems and confront them, correct them, then we won’t have to apologize to the next generation: we get to instead accept their love and appreciation.

What is Anzac Day?
Anzac Day – 25 April – is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
What does ANZAC stand for?
ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as Anzacs, and the pride they took in that name endures to this day.

What's Your Favorite Slang Word?
Apr 17, 2015 | 1-part series
Video by The AtlanticThis is the first episode in a new series from The Atlantic, where we ask tweens for their thoughts on everything from middle-school jargon to what it's like growing up in the digital age. We interviewed students at Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, D.C., who shared some of their favorite slang words with us: swag, on fleek, and werk (with an "e"). "Sometimes slang words come out of famous videos or Vines," Max, a seventh-grade student, says. "It's social media," says Ricardo, another seventh-grader.
